Shaping the future

Green agriculture is a farming system that prioritizes environmental protection, sustainable resource management, and food safety. Its key objectives are to optimize resource use, minimize pollution, and enhance farmers’ incomes through sustainable practices, all while promoting high-value export products.

Implementing the Party’s guidelines, the Government has introduced various policies to promote sustainable agriculture. Notably, Decision No. 899/QĐ-TTg (June 10, 2013) approved the Agricultural Restructuring Plan, prioritizing value enhancement and sustainable development across three pillars: economy, society, and environment. Building on this, Decision No. 885/QĐ-TTg (June 23, 2020) set forth the Organic Agriculture Development Plan for 2020–2030, aiming to expand safe, high-value, and eco-friendly organic farming through circular models for both domestic and export markets.

To implement this policy, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has introduced an Action plan to execute the Green growth strategy for 2021–2030. The plan aims to promote ecological, organic, and circular agriculture; reduce carbon emissions; enhance growth quality; increase value-added and competitiveness; and minimize rural environmental pollution, ultimately working toward a carbon-neutral economy by 2050.

The State’s policies on green and sustainable agriculture have reshaped production models, improved farming practices, and heightened awareness of sustainability.

In crop production, the GAP process is adopted, while biogas technology is utilized in livestock farming. Aquaculture maintains strict quality control from farm to table. Thanks to sustainable and eco-friendly production models, standardized and traceable agricultural and seafood products are gaining a growing market share.

Green shrimp farming

“Green production” in shrimp farming is believed to follow sustainable principles, including pollution reduction, the protection of human and animal health, and the efficient use of resources. This model is considered beneficial for farmers, businesses, and society as a whole.

Vietnam’s shrimp farming industry holds significant potential for sustainable growth through “green production.” Integrated models like shrimp-forest and shrimp-rice farming are expanding, while circular farming systems are being adopted to maximize efficiency. These efforts include leveraging renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and biogas, and employing closed-loop technologies like biofloc and biogas for a more sustainable approach.

However, many experts argue that for this policy to be truly effective, active participation from businesses and shrimp farmers – the key stakeholders, is essential. Strengthening connections within the production chain, combined with support from regulatory agencies and the exchange of international expertise, is therefore crucial.

To address practical needs and align with the policies of the government, and the fisheries sector, the 6th Vietnam International Shrimp Industry Technology Expo 2025 (VietShrimp 2025) will be held under the theme “Greening Farming.”

According to the organizers, the VietShrimp Fair serves not only as a bridge between businesses and shrimp farmers but also as a platform for exploring sustainable and effective solutions for the industry. Notably, the event showcases Vietnam’s leading shrimp farming models, aiming to drive innovation in aquaculture and boost exports in the years ahead.

Amid a sluggish economic recovery, the aquaculture and seafood export industry, especially shrimp farming, continues to face significant challenges. As a result, exploring new directions is seen as a strategic move. VietShrimp 2025 continues to garner strong support from leading seafood enterprises both domestically and internationally.

According to the Organizing Committee, businesses at VietShrimp 2025 will present models, products, and solutions focused on sustainable development, particularly in response to the environmental and climate challenges affecting shrimp farming.

VietShrimp 2025, bringing together regulatory agencies, industry experts, businesses, and shrimp farmers from both domestic and international markets, aims to provide innovative and effective solutions for the shrimp industry.
