The 6th Vietshrimp Aquaculture International Fair – 2025
VietShrimp 2025 – “Greening Farming”
PRESS RELEASE
Vietnam boasts favorable natural conditions, with vast coastlines and abundant freshwater fisheries from the Red River and the Mekong Delta, supporting year-round aquaculture. Consequently, the country has emerged as one of the world’s leading seafood exporters.
In 2024, Vietnam exported seafood to over 170 countries and territories, solidifying its position as one of the world’s top three seafood exporters, with export revenues surpassing USD 10 billion. The shrimp industry has been a key driver for two decades, contributing 40 – 45% of total seafood export value, amounting to USD 3.5 – 4 billion annually.
The rapid expansion of aquaculture has not only generated employment but also boosted the income of millions of farming households. However, this fast-paced growth has led to environmental degradation in many farming areas, resulting in severe pollution.
Over the years, the Government has implemented numerous policies to foster the sustainable development of the fishery sector. In 2022, the Prime Minister approved the Environmental Protection Plan for Fishery Activities for the 2021–2030 period. This plan aims to enhance resilience to climate change, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and promote circular and green economic models within the fishery sector.
The green transition in the fishery sector focuses on three key objectives: expanding sustainable aquaculture, enhancing fishery management, and improving the aquatic feed value chain.
An increasing number of seafood enterprises are embracing green and circular production practices to comply with regulations, laws, and environmental standards. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions in aquaculture and processing not only supports sustainability but also helps businesses secure international environmental certifications.
In Vietnam, various recirculating shrimp farming models have emerged to optimize both inputs and outputs. The shrimp industry is shifting towards greener and more standardized production, an essential approach amid increasingly severe climate change. This transition aligns with the overall strategy of the fisheries sector and serves as the key objective of the 6th Vietnam International Shrimp Industry Technology Expo 2025 (VietShrimp 2025).
VietShrimp has been held five times: in 2016 and 2018 in Bac Lieu, in 2021 and 2023 in Can Tho, and most recently in 2024 in Ca Mau. Over the years, the event has increasingly solidified its reputation as a premier specialized shrimp exhibition in Vietnam and worldwide. VietShrimp continues to attract strong interest from policymakers, industry leaders, shrimp farmers, and experts from around the world. Each edition welcomes tens of thousands of visitors and thousands of delegates attending high-level conferences.
Building on past successes, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (formerly the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) has officially approved the 6th VietShrimp Aquaculture International Fair. Organized by the Directorate of Fisheries and Fisheries Surveillance (formerly the Directorate of Fisheries) in collaboration with the Vietnam Fisheries Society, the Vietnam Fisheries Magazine, and other relevant organizations, the event will take place at the Can Tho Exhibition and Trade Promotion Center. Notably, VietShrimp 2025 marks its first collaboration with Informa Markets, a leading global event organizer, promising to elevate the fair to a regional and international scale.
The VietShrimp 2025 Expo will take place from March 26 to 28, featuring over 200 booths from nearly 150 domestic and international businesses and organizations. As part of the event, four seminar sessions will be held on March 26-27, bringing together policymakers, aquaculture experts, industry leaders, shrimp and seafood farmers from the Mekong Delta, and hundreds of students. The expo aims to serve as premier platform for innovation, fostering technological advancements and sustainable growth in Vietnam’s shrimp industry.
The Organizing Committee sincerely appreciates the support and collaboration of government agencies, the People’s Committee of Can Tho City, ministries, departments, international organizations, businesses, shrimp farmers, and media agencies. We extend our best wishes for good health and success to all delegates and valued guests.
