The 6th Vietshrimp Aquaculture International Fair – 2025

VietShrimp 2025 – “Greening Farming”

PRESS RELEASE

Vietnam has rich natural advantages that support the development of freshwater, marine, and brackish aquaculture. Aquaculture, once a supplementary and subsistence-based practice, has evolved into a highly specialized industry focused on commodity production. It now utilizes advanced technologies while prioritizing sustainability, environmental protection, and integration with other economic sectors. This shift has positioned aquaculture as a key pillar of Vietnam’s economy, contributing 4-5% to the national GDP, ranking third globally in export value, and accounting for a substantial portion of the country’s total export turnover. Additionally, aquaculture has created jobs and boosted incomes for millions of households. However, this rapid growth has also led to environmental challenges, including alterations in agricultural land use, as well as the degradation and pollution of water and soil resources.

In line with the development strategy for both the seafood industry and the nation, production efficiency must align with sustainability. Green production and  green economy are growing global trends, and Vietnam’s seafood industry is no exception. A green transformation is crucial for the sector, which is being shaped with a focus on eco-friendly and sustainable growth.

The Vietnamese Fisheries Development Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2045, approved by the Prime Minister, aims to transform the fisheries sector into a modern, sustainable, and market-oriented industry, serving as a cornerstone of the agricultural and marine economies. Complementing this, the Environmental Protection Plan for Fisheries Activities (2021–2030) promotes the adoption and expansion of circular and green economy models across the fisheries value chain. By 2030, the strategy targets comprehensive pollution monitoring and management, the elimination of harmful chemicals in aquaculture to protect water resources and biodiversity, and the implementation of sustainable environmental practices.

Industry authorities and seafood businesses are actively embracing green export strategies to leverage this opportunity and boost their competitiveness in the global market. Experts highlight three core objectives of the “green” transition: expanding sustainable aquaculture models, effectively managing fisheries, and upgrading value chains within the aquafeed system. Among these, greening the production chain and standardizing farming areas are central goals for Vietnam’s shrimp industry. This focus also inspired the theme of the 6th Vietnam International Shrimp Industry Technology Exhibition 2025 (VietShrimp 2025): “Greening Farming Areas.”

VietShrimp has been held five times: in Bac Lieu province in 2016 and 2018, in Can Tho city in 2021 and 2023, and in Ca Mau province in 2024, leaving a lasting impression each time. The event continues to solidify its reputation as Vietnam’s leading shrimp trade fair, with growing recognition regionally and globally. VietShrimp consistently attracts the attention and support from government officials, businesses, shrimp farmers, and experts both in Vietnam and abroad.

Building on the success of previous trade fairs and in line with the policy of holding annual events, the Vietnam Fisheries Association plans to organize the 6th International Vietnam Shrimp Industry Technology Expo in 2025. VietShrimp 2025 will be held in Can Tho City, the economic and cultural hub of the Mekong Delta.

Duration: 3 days, from March 26 to 28, 2025.

Location: Can Tho Investment, Trade, and Exhibition Promotion Center, 108A Le Loi, Cai Khe Ward, Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City.

With thorough preparation and strategic investment, VietShrimp 2025 will serve as a major hub for businesses, organizations, and shrimp farmers from Vietnam and beyond. The event will feature over 200 booths across various sectors, including breedstock, machinery, aqua feed, veterinary drugs, and biological products. Additionally, four seminars will be held, featuring industry leaders and experts who will discuss solutions for “greening farming areas.” This initiative will contribute to the sustainable growth of the shrimp industry, expanding the reach of Vietnamese shrimp to global markets and reinforcing its position and brand in the international shrimp sector.

The VietShrimp 2025 Organizing Committee looks forward to continued support from millions of shrimp farmers, businesses, experts, as well as government agencies, media, and visitors, both domestic and international.
