Getting closer to shrimp farmers

VietShrimp 2024 was held in Cà Mau Province, the southernmost part of the country, with the aim of getting closer to shrimp farmers. In Cà Mau, VietShrimp continued to realize the desire of shrimp farmers to directly dialogue with managers, industry experts; to directly meet with enterprises, grasp the latest technologies, and products in the shrimp industry.

According to provincial statistics, in 2023, the shrimp farming area in Cà Mau was about 278,000 hectares, with a production reaching 231,000 tons, and export turnover exceeding 1 billion USD; accounting for 40% of the area, 22% of production, and nearly 30% of the export value of shrimp nationwide. Holding VietShrimp in Cà Mau was a very appropriate decision by the Organizing Committee, especially while the shrimp industry has been facing many difficulties.

Though not as large as in previous years, VietShrimp 2024 was still considered a successful event. Lê Văn Sử, Deputy Chairman of the People’s Committee of Cà Mau Province, shared: VietShrimp 2024 in Cà Mau Province, with the theme “In company with shrimp farmers,” is a significant event, not only promoting the image and brand of Vietnamese shrimp but also providing an opportunity for parties to exchange, update advanced technology and science; expand the market; and discuss measures to deal with shortages in the shrimp industry. Then, plans for sustainable development, environmental protection, value enhancement, and competitiveness in the international market can be formulated.

Attractiveness

After being held for the fourth time every two years, VietShrimp 2024 received high attention. From the initial direction of bringing technology to shrimp ponds, the exhibition has always been on the right track. Booths showcased new technologies. For example, the 3-good shrimp farming model by Uni-President Vietnam; new feed products by Skretting, Grobest; microbial products by Vinhthinh Biostadt, Viet Anh, Green Science.

To overcome these challenges, the government has directed relevant agencies to take action, most importantly accompanying shrimp farmers.

With the desire to be a large forum for 4 entities: State – Science – Business – Farmers to jointly find solutions to develop the shrimp industry effectively and sustainably, the Organizing Committee carefully prepared and held successful seminars.
